This is a video I found that I thought was really cool. It really is just a trumpet player improving over a track he found on youtube. I thought it was really cool and in a way is a lot of what we are trying to do in class. I hope you all enjoy it.
This is very much a vibe-oriented piece. Rather than build it up or try to play over the track, he just tries to create an ambiance with the synth complimenting it.
It's so smooth and light sounding. I grew up around this music because my dad was a smooth jazz addict. It has that Elevator music sound to it as well. And, like Stephen said, he is complementing the preexisting rhythm with a melody.
Hearing him float the trumpet over the synth feels a lot like what i do with my voice sometimes. Just adding a line over the music that doesn't change too much about the work, but adds an extra layer of texture. I love the effect.
