Whose Line Is It Anyway? Improve Masters

For those of you who are not familiar with this show, it is called Whose Line Is It Anyway?. It is a show that is completely improved. The actors play multiple different games and this one game they play here is called scene to rap. All they are given is a topic from the audience. They make up all of this on the spot.

  1. We should absolutely try this in class! I mean, it won't work well with me because anytime I try to be funny it just ends up being awkward, but still... haha

  2. This is an awesome improv example Catherine. They all came together and had fun and just kept adding on to what they were already using. I also agree with Melissa, except it might not be as good because I have a horrible sense of humor.

  3. First of all, everything about this show is fantastic. I love it so much. I definitely can't wait until we start doing comprovisation in our circles. I think the ability to improvise and the sounds created while doing it play a large part in our ideas regarding composition and our understanding of music in general. It's going to be a cool experience sharing something so fundamental with our mentor group.

  4. Hahaha no, Melissa, NOOOOO. I lack the talent to rap...it's actually quite sad. I dare not even attempt. Anywhooo, I liked how they built on top of each others ideas, such as using the rhyme scheme that was already set for them by the previous person.

  5. Trying this in class could be a lot of fun, more than just an opportunity for some laughs, it'd give us all a chance to let loose. I know i'm woefully deficient at free styling, but that's beside the point. Improvisation is a great skill to practice and the way they build off each other is analogous to how we want to build the rhythms in a drum circle. Everyone has a part to contribute, and we all rely on each other.

  6. I like how they aren't afraid to show eachother up a little (the "proctologist" line from Greg). It's incredibly fun and artistically rewarding when you can improvise with someone at or above your level and both of you aren't afraid to try to outdo or push the other so everyone is at the top of their game.

  7. I agree with Ben completely, it would also help us break out of our shells even just a little bit more. Doing this game would be a nice change of pace from our regular class work and load. We should also try some other games from this show just for kicks. That would also help us become more comfortable in front of others while we do crazy things.

  8. I definitely see the similarities between drumming and this. All the improv is what we have been practicing and how they keep adding onto one another is the same skill. You have to continue to provide something for the other people after you to feed off of otherwise the whole thing would crumble. Really cool connection between improv acting and drum circle.
